Dear Mr. Korman,

The first time I read Masterminds I was only a little interested in the book when I looked at the cover but now I understand don’t judge a book by its cover. At first, It started with “It was a one in a million shot,” and it hooked me and once I figured out what it meant I got even more hooked than before because who doesn’t want to read a book about people throwing boomerangs and jumping in the pool to try to catch one.

I was disappointed when Randy left but now that they are back I felt like the world was a better place. I want to read the next book so badly I would kill for it. I’m going to read the second book as soon as I can. I really liked your book. It was very interesting and held my attention the whole time. The book changed my whole view of the world. Imagine everything we know to be true is a lie. We gain things from our senses, right? But are our brains are imperfect so everything could be purple and squishy if we think it is not? I also like the experiment question. Do bad people become bad people by nature or the environment and the way they are influenced. Also, if we could clone ourselves would they like us or dislike us. And what if purple people eaters existed? It would be very interesting also to live in a place where everything is perfect no trouble every road is named things like harmony and grace and the town is named Serenity. Does the school show the kids the puberty video or is that too bad for the kids?

The action you put in the book makes it extraordinarily good. When they sneak into the factory and a purple people eater starts coming down the stairs, they crawl in an air duct and go back to get Malik Bruder. Also, when the group of friends takes the traffic cone truck with the barrier generator on and drives out of town while Malik is hitting the generator, then they meet a dead end and jump off and out of the truck but, Hector is so frozen from fear he doesn’t jump so, he and the truck both go tumbling down the cliff and to meet a fiery ending. But I know and you know that main characters never die so Hector is probably going to show up one day and be happy to be back and angry because they didn’t think Hector would make it and they didn’t even look for him, but Malik is going to cry that Hector is back then they will all be happy friends again. I was relieved when they found the Gatorade but of course, that happens because they are the main characters after all. They don’t die. The main characters never die. For example, Anakin skywalker gets burned by the lava and comes out alive. I also liked it when the main characters found out they were cloned from criminals and were experiments and they found that one of them was from the crossword killer.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is an outstanding movie that is very funny. I can see where you wrote funny comments in your book that made me laugh. To me, I like it when books make you laugh, I feel that it is a major aspect of books along with entertaining and informing. My favorite books always made me laugh and entertained me but have some information in it. I really like your book for those reasons.

By seeing how the kids struggled to find the truth helped me realized that kids can do big things and can choose the right no matter what is going on all. Kids are just as good as adults and just because they are older and have more experience doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want to whoever they want. Kids deserve the truth and freedom as adults do. I also feel that it is very wrong to not have the kids be properly educated. They need to know what the world is like. The kids need to have some hardship to build-up resilience and fortitude for the environment to come.

Sincerely,

Baron Carey
