I can only tell you what worked for me when I was your age (and I’m not sure what that is, actually.)

Try THE HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY and, if you like it, the sequels. I don’t quite remember how many. If you feel ready for adult books, you can’t do better than THE SIRENS OF TITAN by Kurt Vonnegut. I read it when I was 12, and it’s still my favorite book of all time. As for contemporary children’s lit, you can’t go wrong with anything by Rick Riordan.
