Hi, Mr. Korman.
I am an adult about your age. I love to read children’s books, and books for young adults. That said, I don’t bother with the average or mainstream. Recently, I discovered Ungifted at the thrift store,.
I just finished reading it, and there are two praises I wanted to share with you:
The first half of the book is better than the second half overall. Basically, as I am sure you know, it flows more easily. Honestly, I’m guessing that writing the second half was more of a challenge for you–AND you didn’t drop the ball.
and I laughed out loud at Abigail’s confession. That was WELL done.
Finally, in case you are interested, I mentioned 2 true robotics team experiences, recorded in movies. The first is a smile as big as the Moon, telling the story about a special education class from Forest hills, Michigan, who goes to NASA space camp. among other things, they participate in a robotics competition. Very heartwarming. The second happened in Phoenix Arizona and was covered in two movies. The one I have seen is Spare Parts; the other one, Underwater Dreams, came out a year earlier. They cover the fact of some a naturalized Mexican children raised in Phoenix getting up a robot to enter into competition. (To enjoy the human element of this story, I, personally, had to overlook the thorny question of unnaturalized people in this country.) If you HAVEN’T seen them, you might enjoy them.
