Hi, Imani Reyes,
Thanks for writing and for your interest. Your questions:
1. Good question! Leaf Man was meant to stand in contrast to the activities of a bully. Brendan is important to the story because he’s Chase’s first friend in his new life.
2. Time usually goes fast when I’m writing, and that was true with RESTART as well as most of my other books. I can sometimes be called down to dinner when it seems like only a half hour or so since I came up to my workroom after lunch!
3. Sure I know all the characters’ names by heart. I made them up, so I’m practically their Dad!
4. All my writing is done full time. Writing is what I do for a living, so when I “go to work,” it means I’m writing full time.
5. I wrote another chapter featuring Chase with Aaron and Bear getting up to some trouble. It was written for a Scholastic magazine after the book came out, so it never made it into the actual book. I’d really have liked it included. Otherwise, I wouldn’t change anything. I’m really proud of RESTART’s success.
OK? Thanks, Imani. —–Gordon Korman—–
