Hi, Marlay,

1. I guess you could say I inspired myself. I’m a professional writer, and don’t really need anyone else’s inspiration. Writers write because we have something to say, or  a story to tell.

2. I needed Chase to restart his life. For his attitude and choice of friends to change, he had to forget who he used to be. That required loss of memory. Hence, amnesia.

3. RESTART took between 7 and 8 months to write, and then several weeks of rewriting, and adding and subtracting  before I considered it ready to go.

4. Writing is a solitary profession. But I’m lucky to  have a Mom who is a talented editor, and that’s a big help with grammar and vocabulary. If she says, “That line could be better,” I listen.

5. I can’t relate to the characters in any meaningful way, at least not in the way you mean it. They’re all fictional, which means I made them up.

OK? Thanks, Marlay. Keep reading!                                            —–Gordon Korman—–
