Chapter 12 was EPIC!! Absolutely dying at “I present your future – a head!” Up there in the same league of one-liners as “I hate this radio.” I agree it was indeed out of character for Yash to be reading it the first time. He is a nice enough guy that he probably would have at least rehearsed once, but maybe he was distracted by the chicken dance. And it was so much funnier this way. Cleo is going to tie him up and spray him with a fire extinguisher, Wendy style. “Land??? You bought LAND??”
Okay, back to this book: my big take-away after this chapter is, what is up with the other jocks? Why are they such massive jerks? Jeering at their best friend is way out of line. I had thought they were just distant, but in my eyes they’re starting to be the real villains here. And why wasn’t Nitro Nate there? What’s his deal?
Pretty slick of Bella to wait until Yash was distracted and to sneak on the stage with the standard-issue footie pajamas of the cast. She has the makings of someone who really can change the world, she just needs to figure out how to target her passion and her competence a little more sensibly, like maybe at the state education department which should be less arbitrary and rigid in their middle school graduation requirements, and needs to beef up their digital security.
I enjoyed Yash’s mom. One thing I appreciate much more now is all is the mom characters. They’re always like, “Okay, dear, no problem,” which I used to just read past before, and now that I’m the mom who acts like that I understand (or imagine) what’s probably going on in their heads.
