Hi, Jade,

That’s a toughie, and writing about it might not help much. If there is an impasse like you describe — an unwillingness to admit the racism you see — then the probable answer is to move on. You are a friendly, creative, smart, attractive, gregarious person with so much to offer. I know you as someone who offers friendship and kindness as a matter of natural behavior. You don’t have to spend a single moment defending who you are.

You’re hurt, and that’s natural, including the tears. And you probably don’t really want to hear that there are other — and better — fish in the sea. But there are, I promise you.

As for writing about it, you’re probably too close to it now. But if you find it therapeutic to write your feelings down, try it, by all means. We writers do get a lot out of putting our feelings down on paper — it’s all part of our remarkable self-esteem!

Like M.C., I’m sorry to hear that you’re disturbed and unhappy. Please feel better!
