Hi, Gemma,

Thanks for posting. I’m glad you find my books are still coming out fresh and interesting! After 107 of them, it gets a little harder to avoid repeating myself.

Your questions: I wrote my first book from a plot I dreamed up. I got it published by sending it to the only publisher I knew — Scholastic — they liked it, and presto! Writing tips? The basics: write every day, a lot, a ton! Write stories, letters, lists, and perhaps a diary. That’s the way you get good at expressing yourself. When you think you’re ready, plan your book VERY WELL before you start to write. And then find someone you really trust, and show that person your work. Ask for their honest opinion. An honest opinion is he only aceptable response from him/her.

OK? Good luck, Gemma!                                                                                                          —–Gordon Korman—–
