Hi, Jack Winel,
Thanks for posting and for choosing me for your author project. I’ll try to answer all your questions.
First of all, there’s a ton of stuff about me and my books on the Internet, especially on this website.
1. Favorite sport: football.
2. Favorite team: New York Giants. I’m a season ticket holder.
3. Favorite book genre: comedy-adventure.
4. My younger self was a writer too — I’ve been writing for publication since I was 12. I’d probably tell my younger self to pay more attention to editorial comment. Good editors can add a tremendous amount to a book. When I was younger, I thought every word I put down was the perfect one for that sentence. And authors can be wrong.
5. If I didn’t write, I think I would be teaching. My NYU college friends, mind you, were into business and finance, so I might have gone that way too. We’ll never know.
6. This problem never came up, so I really can’t say.
7. Both. I do have a body of work with many stand-alone books. But I also write a number of series too. As for a “body of work,” I have 90 titles in print as of now, and more coming. I think I’ll let my readers decide what to call my output.
8. I never considered writing under a pseudonym. I don’t really understand why anybody would want to.
9. I’ve never had writers’ block, but so many people say it’s a real problem that I have to believe it exists. I honestly believe, though, that if you plan your work sufficiently, it’s virtually impossible to get bogged down. I believe in planning.
10. Guilty. I don’t do it very much, but there are certain items that will mean something to a family member or friend, but not to the general public. And years ago I used to bring up the name “Gunhold” in several books, just to amuse the really loyal fans who read everything I turned out.
That’s it. I hope I’ve covered everything you asked about. If not, you know how to reach me — right here. Thanks again for your interest in me and my work, Jack.
Best regards,
