Your question: I got started writing in answer to a 7th grade English assignment. We were supposed to write what our teacher called a “novelette,” which was a story that didn’t end after the first couple of pages. I got carried away and quite accidentally wrote the story that became my first book, THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL. I’ve been writing ever since.
