Thanks for posting. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoy my books and that you’re a writer yourself.
Your questions:
1) Out of all my books, my favorite character is probably Cameron Boxer, from SLACKER, my newest release. He’s a video-game-addicted couch potato, and based on someone I know very well.
2) When I was a “kid,” as you put it, I was a professional writer. I wrote my first book as a 7th grader, age 12 — it started as an English project and just grew. Writing came easily to me. I enjoyed it.
3) My stuff is fiction. But I did write a 3-book historical fiction series called TITANIC. That, of course, is a fictional story with a true historical background.
And yes, you may certainly use my setting and characters, so long as it’s not published, so long as you cite the source, and so long as you’re not paid for it. Those are the standard rules for fan fiction.
