Hi, Ashante,
Thanks for posting. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoy my books, and I’ll try to answer your questions.
1. The goal of SON OF THE MOB was simply to entertain my Y/A audience. (There’s a sequel, called HOLLYWOOD HUSTLE.)
2. The theme. Hmmm. I think it was how someone immersed in crime and life in the underworld can rise above it, and yet have more of a talent for it than anyone else in the family. That was Vince.
3. Did I get the point across? I satisfied myself that I did, and the rest would depend on the reader.
4. I didn’t intend a message, but I think “Be yourself and you’ll survive” came across. I’m not big on messages.
5. The book was intended for a Y/A audience, and also adult readers who might be interested.
6. The book did well, but not as well as I would have wished. So I did achieve the intended audience, but not enough of them.
OK? Hope that’s everything you wanted to know. If there’s anything else, you know where to find me — right here!
