You wrote “I Want to Go Home” in 1981, the year our daughter was born. When she was 9 and her brother, 11, they no longer would either let me, or their dad, read to them. However, we had already amassed 17 readings of this particular book along with reading many, many others of yours and other authors’ books. (It was the only book to have so many repeated readings, as it was our go-to book when life was stressful for them—and probably for us as well.)
This same dad just had a hip replacement and I chose “I Want to Go Home” to take with me for this hospital stay. The book is contacted-covered, a section of the book is no longer connected to the spine and our son’s name on it for some way-from-home experience for which he must have needed grounding. I guess I also needed grounding this week as well—and it still makes me laugh!
