I didn’t go anywhere. I was the class monitor for the Scholastic Book Clubs, and I sent my manuscript to the address on the literature I had from Scholastic. I was just plain lucky that anyone saw it!
I recommend that you go to your library and ask for a book on writers’ markets. It will have all the English language publishers, including the names of the contact persons. It will also tell you the kind of work they’re looking for, and whether or not they even accept and read material that comes without an agent. A lot of them do not.
