Hi, Trinity,
Thanks for posting. I’ll try to get to all your questions.
1. I really do love writing. When I get into a topic, I really enjoy the heck out of it, even the hard parts.
2. Why? Because writing is what I do for a living. It’s my chosen profession, and has been since I was 12.
3. Ah, you noticed that! I saw it in a book I read a few years ago, and realized that it would fit very well with the kind of stuff I write. I find it gives a more rounded effect to the story to have several different viewpoints.
4. The shortest took 5 weeks; the longest took a lttle over a year. Average 6 to 8 months.
5. Inspired? You might say so! I was asked by my 7th grade teacher to write what he called “a novelette.” I think he just wanted a story that didn’t end after the first page. I got carried away, and the resulting project was my first book, THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL. That was almost 50 years ago!
6. Not intentionally. But I’m sure I’m in there somewhere, along with some of my own experiences and those of people I know. But what I write is basically fiction. If I’m in one of my books, it’s unintentional.
OK? Thanks for your interest, Trinity. Best regards to you! —–Gordon Korman—–
