Dear Gordon Korman,

Never judge a book by its cover. Unless… the cover is bright yellow and eye-catching. I was desperately searching for a book trying to get out of a less interesting book.  When I started reading your book, “Schooled”, I had no clue the adventure it would take me on. I’ve heard from my friends that you write some funny books, although I never planned on reading one of them. Except I couldn’t help myself when I saw that the book advised the reader that you were a best-selling author.

“Capricorn”, the main character, is someone I can connect to because I am currently in the same situation that he was in, when he had to go to a new school. Also, just like Cap, I was uncomfortable in the beginning, and made it my goal to learn people’s names. I hope that I don’t have to change my personality for others satisfaction, and that they learn to like me for who I am.

One important lesson that I learned from this book is that you should never have to change your personality whether or not people expect you to. People that do expect that out of you are not a real friend until they accept your normal personality. I also learned that no matter how others treat you, you should always respond with kindness, just like how Cap handles Sophie. Even if you look different, you can still be a loyal friend.

One of many reasons why I would recommend this to someone else is because it is funny, and it is the best book about school. Anyone with a sense of humor would appreciate “Schooled”. If you like a simple, straightforward book, then this should be number one on your list. In my opinion, the hardest part about reading this book, is you are forced to keep reading. After reading this book, I know not to judge people by their looks and always give them a chance. If I had to rate this book, I’d give it an “A” because Capricorns skills are very admirable for someone who’s never been in the outside world.

Sincerely, Noah Rasheed
