Hi, Michael, Medhi, Sharon, & Valentina,

Thanks for posting. I’m pleased to hear that UNGIFTED made a hit with you. I hope you’ll also read the sequel, SUPERGIFTED, to see how Noah fares in a regular school, the same one Donovan goes to.

Your question: Noah is not only gifted; he’s a genius, capable of absorbing and learning anything. And the Academy is a very unchallenging and boring place for him. But a regular high school, regular kids, ordinary things like dances and sports teams and YouTube — these are all mysteries to him. He wants that kind of stimulation for himself. And he can’t get it at the Academy, where he knows, and can do, everything. Once he meets Donovan and sees what a free spirit a person can be, he wants that kind of life for himself. He wants to be free from his own intellect. For Noah, being super-smart isn’t a gift, or so he thinks. It’s a lot like the old saying: “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” Some people simply want what they don’t have.

OK? Thanks again, people. Great to hear from you.                             —–Gordon Korman—–
