Hi, Mrs. Curious,
Thanks for posting. The teacher thought it was good, and the other kids in the class said it was as good as anything they’d read in published form. So my Mom typed it neatly (if I’d done it, I’d still be pecking away) and we sent it to Scholastic in Toronto, our home town. One of their readers liked it and brought it to a junior editor who brought it to a senior editor who brought it to the boss. And just before my 13th birthday, I had a contract for a book that was going to be called THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL. And that’s how it happened. The world is different today. I don’t know if a manuscript that came without an agent would even get read. But I was lucky back then. And the rest, as they say, is history!
OK? Thanks for being curious! —–Gordon Korman—–
