Hi, Kaylee,
Thanks for posting. I’ll try to answer your questions.
If you self-publish, your success is up to you. My advice would be to hire a public relations firm to handle the publicity for you. They will know how to reach the segment of the public that will have the most interest in your book. BUT — I hope you won’t self-publish before you polish up your manuscript, perhaps hire an editor, and see if a publishing company might want to publish it. It would be more cost-effective. And besides, editors can give you some really good tips. (All this from someone who has never self-published.)
My favorite genre is comedy-adventure. Why? I enjoy plotting it and writing it, and if I’m not entertained, chances are my readers won’t be either, and we can’t have that! Like my latest, NOTORIOUS. It’s on a serious topic, but there are some hilarious parts in it and, I hope, some endearing characters. I have to like what I’m doing.
And I have never had writers’ block, in spite of the fact that NOTORIOUS is book # 96! If you do get a slow-down or block, I would recommend a really in-depth soul-search of your topic and plan. I repeat — if you don’t enjoy it, chances are no one else will either. There is no problem that an author can’t solve — in his or her writing, that is!
OK? Thanks again. Good luck. I hope to be writing you a fan letter one day! —–Gordon Korman—–
