Hi, Noah,

Randy knew that something was “screwy” in Serenity, and that some kids were special, and some weren’t. He only found out that Eli and the others were clones when they showed up at his school after the escape, and Eli filled him in on what was going on. He would have heard then that Hector was dead, and wouldn’t have known otherwise until and unless Eli explained what happened. The book doesn’t elaborate, but you have to decide for yourself if Eli would contact Randy after the adventure was over, and fill him in on the details of how it all turned out. They’d been best friends, after all. And they all owed Randy a debt of gratitude for pointing out that something wasn’t right early on in the story.

As for Randy’s parents, I never went into what became of the scientists. They got off easy, I think, because Tamara Dunleavy wanted to avoid too much publicity for the clones she was raising. If the Hardaways were mad at Randy for sheltering the 4 escapees for a few days, they certainly had no right to be! Was Randy breaking the law? Maybe. But they were for sure by working on Project Osiris!

Secretly, I like to think that, if Randy ended up alone because his parents were in prison, Tamara would have added him to her group. What’s one more, after all, right?
