I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed WAR STORIES. Sorry for the confusion. Rene’s family consisted of his wife and several children. They were killed when the house was destroyed. Rene remarried, and these two are grandchildren descended from that marriage. But I don’t think they would “thank” Jacob for their existence. They probably grew up witnessing their grandfather’s grief for the family he lost.

I hope you’ll want to read many more of the books on my long list. Thanks for posting.
