Hi, Avi,
The authors for the first 10 books were all lined up before the series ever started, so we all knew we were writing “in committee.” And a team of writers and editors cooked up the basics of the whole story and the places where the action would take place. Rick Riordan wrote the first book. Then I got his manuscript and wrote the second book, being told it had to start in Paris, continue in Europe, end in Japan (I think it was Japan — it was 12 years ago!), and involve Mozart, who was a Cahill — sure, everybody worthwhile was a Cahill of one branch or another. Peter Lerangis was given my manuscript, and told who to write about, and where it had to end up, etc. It was a lot of fun. Other authors were signed on after Book 11, which was VESPERS RISING — it meant the series was a hit and a whole new set of books had to be designed.
