Hi, Sheila Martin, and of course, Isabella — I try to answer all my fan mail.

1. THE FORT is strictly fiction, which means I made it all up.

2. I think I probably borrow bits and pieces from people I know — certain phrases, likes and dislikes, quirky things. But it would be just a tiny bit here and there. The characters are just as fictional as the story.

3. I admit I knew of someone like the stepfather, whose temper ran hot and cold like that. And I never knew anyone like Mitchell, but I’ve read a lot about his disorder.

4. I have 1 wife and 3 kids, ages 24, 20, and 17, boy-girl-boy. And I also have a Mom and a Dad of my own.
