Hi, Darren,

I’m delighted that you and John L. found each other. Please feel free to use this venue.

Your questions: Re: an adult novel. Aside from the fact that I actually thought I WAS writing an adult novel when I wrote the first one, the answer is that I don’t know. It’s possible that, as one fan accused, I’m taking adult plots and winnowing them down so they fit middle grade. But it’s more likely that I just like what I’m doing, I’m having quite a lot of success at it, and that’s all there is to it.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned about writing? That there is no plotting dilemma so serious that you can’t manage to write your way out of and/or around it. And readers will forgive you a lot if you can make them laugh.

Bugs hailed from Winnipeg because I was born in Montreal and grew up in Toronto. I guess it was just for variety’s sake.

And in what universe the CFL could be better presently escapes me. Is it a Manitoba thing?
