Dear Gord,

I have good news. One: You’re getting a letter today, from me! It’s this, not a piece of paper. Sorry. Two: I think my writing is getting better. I only watched a couple YouTube videos for a few hours in the past days and I can see my writing coming together a bit more and more. I wrote random stuff on a piece of paper today in class and I dare say that it was not half bad. I mean, my writing usually isn’t half bad, but I can tell it’s improving.

All of this research has only gotten me more and more excited to write Realistic Fiction for Middle Grade. I could talk about writing for ages, but you know… it’s just so me.

I have a few authors whose writing I really like. You’re my favorite, and I really appreciate their styles. Gordon Korman (sound familiar?), Shannon Messenger, Chris Colfer, Alan Gratz. All writers who have talents and skills that I want to mimic. Not mimic as in form a style copying theirs, but mimic as in write like them. Same impact.

I really enjoy writing. I hope it can be my profession one day. But right now, I need to work and work and work to get my first novel out, which will probably be the hardest.

Speaking of. I decided I want a new pen name. My current one is my first and middle initials and then my last name. I want to change that and get a cool, memorable last name that won’t slip from someone’s mind immediately. Just like how I want my characters to have interesting (enough) names.

Did you ever consider a pen name, when you first came out with your books?

Be blessed,

Jade
