Good question. It’s not cutthroat, but it’s very selective and particular. It’s a hard business to break into. But it isn’t that hard to get someone — either an editor or an agent — to read your work. They’re always looking for the next big thing. If what you’ve written is something special, they’ll know it and push for its success. But not cutthroat, no.

I was born in Montreal, and grew up in Toronto, two not very exotic places, but nice cities to live in. When I went to NYU, I really fell for New York. Also a New York girl. We’ve been married for 26 years and have 3 kids. We live on Long Island.
