@Raymond At this point, I’m not even sure if this “universe” is a real place! But schools can have some pretty wacky names. I think that chapter really captured how weird it felt to live life… and that’s good. I also think Chase was being a wonderful big brother! It makes me wonder if my sister and brother did stuff like that when I was little. It was just a really sweet moment. And yeah, Frank could just be watching football because he likes it. But I doubt he’d watch some middle schoolers over real players! You’ve got me thinking that he’s there to re-live his old glory days.
@Logan Mr. Solway is so awesome! The introduction to him got me not liking him, though. You’re so right, he is very, very moody. I know it would hurt to interact with him if it were me. The locker room scene was awesome. It really shows some actual, realistic dynamics of nerds/geeks and jocks. Sad to say it but that’s how they’re treated at my school, except it’s less funny and more awkward and plain sad. Shame. I think Gord captured the chaos and destruction of the locker room pretty well. And holy guacamole! It’s so interesting to see the locker room from the perspective of the top dawg rather than the loner wolf, like Kaden in SLUGFEST. Gosh, that hurts, knowing both sides. That it means nothing to the jocks but is torture to everyone else.
@J.R. I hope you get your book soon!
The sad thing is, I like Aaron and Bear. And to, “Maybe they will do something very brave to save him or the video crew.” we’ll see! 😀
Chapter 9:
I like how the boys were defending Chase from the others. They really are loyal, you know? Holy guacamole, it was awesome to see another setting! I was getting pretty tired of Hiawassee Middle School. The Assisted Living Residence was pretty nice, I like how it’s described… kind of like a hospital but they’re trying. It doesn’t help that hospitals scare me. 🙁 I like how many characters there are! Some stories can just feel empty without the extra random people, but I like Nurse Duncan. I like “Cloud Ten”. And the Aaron and Bear characterization this chapter was phenomenal! I really wish they’d be good guys, and it saddens me that I would probably never be friends with them in real life. Now that I think about it, why did Chase have this huge personality shift? Maybe it’s just me, but I know maybe two kids my age (and younger) who would actually care if a guy got the Medal of Honor. We’d be like “cool” and then move on. But Chase gets real caught up on it, wonder why.
I like how Chase stayed behind with Mr. Solway. Who is this guy? Shows how Chase can be more adamant and the new, “restarted” Chase actually does have a personality! Curiosity!
“I’ve already forgotten more than he’ll ever know” was such a devastating line. Sometimes, I forget the exact weight of what he’s going through, but dang. Wow. It’s gonna be alright. At least since we know Chase was not a good guy in the past, that he doesn’t have to have that to remember. I wouldn’t exactly want to remember being a jerk. But… I’m sad he forgot all of his happy moments too. Hm. Restarts can be for good and for bad, and a lot of GK characters can attest to that!
Be blessed,
Jade
