@Raymond Thank you, thank you. “Okay, so I just spent 200-odd words saying I disagree with you—but I sincerely love that you have such a different way of seeing this scene, and that you presented such a strong case for it.” And I really appreciate it too–ditto! Your vastly different perspective is making me think, maybe, maybe I’m being a little overdramatic. I just really like Chase. You rise a wonderful point about him being an unreliable narrator… I know quite a few thirteen-year-old boys and many of them were just as enthusiastic about any given situation as Chase. And “pure of heart”, maybe you are just much, much more “lighthearted” since you saw it as a much brighter and welcoming situation than I did.

My eyes: Demonic family is ready to torture young, innocent boy after he falls into their trap perpetrated by their monstrous wolfhound.

Your eyes: A family becomes more forgiving and welcoming to their son’s ex-bully by taking care of him after an accidental run-in with a bush.

I quite liked when Joel opened the window. In my eyes, it was kind of like him saying “yeah, I know I’m good” (because he is!) just slightly while also welcoming in Chase, showing that they’re on the path to forgiveness, which is always beautiful. And we all know I could never truly hate Shoshanna. Even when she tries me. I can, now, appreciate how the Webers did actually help Chase. They did invite him into their home. Hm. Maybe it’s not as dramatic as I make it seem. Because also, I imagine Chase makes it a little dramatic and then I make it double dramatic because he’s my precious wittle Chasey-poo.

I thought it was awesome to find Bear’s nickname! And Brendan’s scar is a great metaphor (motif?) for how Chase was. And with the mending of that scar comes the mending of his and Chase’s relationship. Lol. I’m beginning to realize that Brendan is the single reason that the Webers and Chase are now, ahem, getting along.

Chapter 19:

Bear! Awesome! First time, interesting. Nice to see you. “Get Out of Jail Free Card” is an amazing analogy for assymblies! At least, it was before I became a Cheerleader and had to perform a dance. Sigh. Sacrifices… but still! So cool! I understand so deeply getting ready to sleep in a school assembly. Ooh, I feel the distaste from Aaron and Bear when they realize that their ex-best friend went behind their back, took the sister of that kid who got them in community service, and did a whole movie with her on this Dumbledore that treated them horribly. Now, of course, that’s a biased way to view it, but I understand the boys. And oh my goodness, how foreboding? They’re cooking up something absolutely terrible and I’m afraid it’s gonna have horrible effects on Chase and his life…

Be blessed,

Jade
