Good question!

I choose a smaller city/town on purpose. My characters often have to navigate in an urban setting, and I don’t want the distances or the traffic to be too far/heavy.

Example: SLUGFEST takes place in a reasonably tight area, and I placed one character in an adjacent town — he has to take the bus, but he’s a bit of an outsider.

As you can see (me too!) it’s kind of hard to explain. But I do it on purpose.        —–Gordon Korman—–
