Gordon Korman, Your Books Are The Best!

Hello!

My name is Susan, and I just wanted to create this post to express my appreciation for your books. I started reading your books when I was in Grade 2 – beginning with the MacDonald Hall series! I was immediately hooked – I loved funny books, and I loved reading (still do). The moment when I truly fell in love with your writing, though, was a year later, in Grade 3. I had a wonderful teacher that year, who would read us many books, and one of them was I Want to Go Home!. I love love LOVE that book, and though it led me to read many of your other books, that one stuck with me. I got myself a copy as soon as I could, and it was my favourite, coming with me everywhere I went just in case I got bored (sports, school, the car, the grocery store). This did not end in Grade 3 – I think I continued to carry it around with me all the way until I started high school. The most ironic part is that no part of that book would have been relatable to me! I was a young girl who had never been to an overnight summer camp, and even if I did, I definitely would not have wanted to go home (and I can say that with certainty as, now that I am older, I have spent many summers at camp, and always cry when it comes time to leave). I enjoyed many other books of yours, too: the Masterminds series, Restart, Slacker, Whatshisface, and the 6th Grade Nickname Game were some of my favourites (though most of those books are now pretty old; as I my age group is no longer your main target audience). I am 17 now, and I graduate high school this year. I came across your website whilst trying to finish an essay and something reminded me of Masterminds as I tried to place what exactly it was.

All this to say, your books have deeply impacted who I am as a person and the way that I look at the world around me. Plus, some of the credit for how funny I am must be given to you. I still pick up the MacDonald Hall books and I Want to Go Home when I want a quick chuckle.

Thank you, Mr. Korman.
