    Dear Mr. Korman,

Hello! My name is Aviya, and I really enjoy your books. I'm twelve years old, and want oto be an author some day. My favorite boosks of yours are the Masterminds series, the Kidnapped series, and Restart of Operation Do-over. I have a lot of favorites.

Anyway, as I said, I want to be an author. I've already started several short-stories, finished some, and written a novel. The thing is, I can only seem to find one theme, and just rewrite it with slight variations. I wondered if you had any tips on finding new ideas.

    Thanks,

    Aviya

    Hi, Aviya,

Thanks for posting. It's always nice to hear from another writer.

You don't mention what your "one theme" is, so it's hard for me to answer. If the theme is true love, or sports hero, or school struggler, you should note that there are gazillions of variations on those simple topics. You're just not seeing them because you may be in a bit of a rut right now. And maybe not. Maybe your theme is just right for you.

Consider the movies and TV shows you've seen, the books you've read, even the news stories you've come across, or the tales your friends have been telling, and let your mind expand on those themes. There are limitless topics, but you have to be willing to consider them.

Good luck.I hope to be writing you a fan letter one day soon!                 -----Gordon Korman-----
