Julia - Bookseller

Hi Gordon,

I was a student in elementary school when you had MacDonald Hall published - you were 14 - I was 10, and a voracious reader. You were my childhood hero! I always thought that if this other kid from Ontario could do it, then I could too!

Fast forward almost half a century (gulp) and I am a bookseller at an independent bookshop in Central Ontario, having retired from teaching.

Your first book has always been my number one go-to for recommendations to reluctant readers. We have it in constant circulation in our store. Imagine my surprise and dismay when I checked on the delay of my stock reorder and found that the series is GONE! In fact, we appear to be the only independent bookstore to even have the second book in stock - and the publisher doesn't have stock! We are lucky enough to have stock on-hand of all of the titles except for the first one.

How can this be?

Please tell me that your oh-so-important first book isn't gone forever! Please tell me that this is only a reprint/reissue lag. As a bookseller, I need to know!!

I have an answer, but it's an iffy one.

The series is presently out of print, and Scholastic is deciding how to (and whether or not they will) handle it. I have the feeling that it involves Sir John A., and other historic figures, and I can't guess what the decision will be. But the series is very popular, as you so kindly pointed out. So let's keep a good thought.

When the decision comes down, this website will publish the details.
