Just re-finished Maxx Comedy. It really is an underappreciated book. It has some of your funniest moments in any book. (spoiler alert) The "Nice Pants" and the cow birth being the laughtrack had me laugh at loud - the first time in a while as I've reread many of your books multiple times. 

 

I have to say there were two things that bothered me. The first was the stand up comedy routines. They were cringe and really hard to get through. Was that intentional? The only character who actually had a great routine was Maude. When she was going on about how the preschool teachers put on her diapers backwards, I was getting strong Rodney Dangerfield vibes. I could not stop laughing. Was the original ending supposed to have Maude winning the contest as a surprise entry?

 

The second thing that bothered me was the ending. It was much more rushed than your usual slapstick spectaculars. I was left wondering if Maxx ever performed his routine. I'm happy he didn't, because it would have flopped. 

Other than that, the book was hilarious and has some of your best characters and lines of all time.
