    Sarah Hwang

I recently finished reading “Linked.” I am a Korean-American living in a small town in New Jersey, and I like to read for the endless boundary for creativity. The book “Linked” was more than paper and ink. It was a whisper of possibilities, reminding me that there is still hope in humanity.

One part that inspired me the most was when Link confided to Rabbi Gold about his mistakes, he showed his deep regret and took courage to change. I learned that admitting mistakes is not a weakness, but the first step to grow.I used to believe that courage is doing the right things. However, my perspective changed that courage is also owning the wrong and choosing to become better.

One of my favorite Disney movies is Mulan. In the movie, Mulan was disguised as a male to join the army and when the officials found out, she was expelled from the camp. It was wrong for Mulan to lie about her gender, but she owned up to her faults and turned herself into an even greater warrior.

Now I know the power of real courage that I will not be scared from my own faults.

    To Mr. Korman,

I\'m an eighth grader and I read a lot in my spare time. Your books make me feel as if I\'m in the book, seeing the story happen in front of me. Your books are my favorite novels. Every time I go to the library, I immediately look for the Gordon Korman books. Some of my favorite ones are The Fort, Restart, The Superteacher Project, and Old School. Whenever my friends ask for a book recommendation, I tell them about your books.

I would like to ask if you could possibly make movies connecting some of your novels such as The Fort and The Superteacher Project.

    Your fan,

    Lorissa

    Hi, Lorissa,

Thanks for posting.I'm glad to hear that my books have been going over well with you. With the recent release of SNOOP, my total is now 106 books, which seems like a lot, even to me! I hope you'll read many more of them.

As for movies, that's not up to me.I just write the stuff. It's film companies that make movies. There have been movies made of some of my books, but by film people, not me. And quite a few of them have been optioned for film, so I guess we just have to be patient.

OK? Thanks for reaching out.                                                                           -----Gordon Korman-----

    Hi Gordon,

I just wanted to say how much I appreciated that you put a character in the Swindle series who has narcolepsy! I loved reading this series as a kid -- I still remember picking out the book because of the dog on the cover, and when my mom sat down to read it with me, she asked me what I thought it would be about. Not knowing the word "swindle" at age 8, I said 'I think it will be about a dog named Swindle' xD. Anyhow, fast forward 11 years, I finally got my narcolepsy diagnosis (after it onset around age 13) and I largely attribute the fact that I was able to know to ask the right questions to get it diagnosed was because I had been exposed to the disorder from that book series. Thank you! Also, why did you put that character in there? How did you know that disorder even existed?

Side note - I LOVED reading Ungifted as a teenager. Who would have guessed that I would now be a leader for a robotics team of middle and high schoolers!

I love reading, and as a kid, your books fueled my imagination and interests. Thank you!! I hope to eventually write children's literature also.

    Hi, Anna,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased to hear that Ben Slovak made a hit with you. I'm not sure why I wrote about narcolepsy, or even how I knew about it. It just seemed right for Ben, and added a lttle tension to some scenes.

I'm also glad you enjoyed UNGIFTED. There is a sequel, called SUPERGIFTED. And, next January, a 3rd in the series, called HYPERGIFTED. I hope you'll want to read many more of my books. There are 106 on the list, which amazes even me!

Thanks for posting.I'm pleased to hear tat RESTART went over so well with you. Right now I have no plans for a sequel, but I admit that could change. I'll offer you what I offer others who ask for a sequel: an indefinite maybe. Sorry, but it will have to do for now. Meanwhile, I hope you'll read many more of my books. There are a lot of them!

    Dear Gordon Korman,

Your website is full of amazing books and other information that I found fascinating. I have read a total of five of your books, and my favorite is Linked.  I loved it so much because it is relatable, as I am Jewish. In addition to being Jewish, I also know a lot about the Holocaust. I really enjoyed the way you made Pamela really seem like she had no repentance. I would really enjoy a sequel about what happens to Pamela in her new school and what happens to Link now that he is Bar Mitzvahed. I was surprised at the quantity of books you have written. Amazingly, my twin sister Alice and I both love your books, which I think is rare, as books are usually catered to one group of kids.

Do you use a template for your writing, or do you write from scratch?

Where do you come up with your ideas?

    What is your favorite book?

    What is your favorite book?

    Hi,Charlie,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased to hear that my books have been going over well with you and your sister.

Your questions: I can't imagine what template would match all my different subjects. No, it's all me, from scratch. My ideas come from plain old hard work and a lot of thinking and plotting. No big mystery; it's just work. And I really have no favorites among my books, but I'm very proud of LINKED and THE FORT, and especially pleased with the way the 3-book series, MASTERMINDS, came out.

OK? Thanks again, Charlie. I hope you'll want to read yourway right through my long list.

    Dear Mr. Korman,

I love your books very much and I was wondering if there was any talk about a Restart sequel perhaps:)))?? Anyways I like how Restart and Linked both have Jewish people because I am also a young Jewish girl. My English teacher loves your books, and so do I. I also have a couple of questions:

Do you use a, so to speak, \"script\" for your books? I sometimes find relations in your books and wanted to know.

Are there plans for a Faker sequel? I just know that I would love to read it.

Finally, do you ever get writers block??

    Dear Mr. Korman

I’m a 7th grade Jewish boy who has really enjoyed reading your books. Two of my favorites are Linked and Restart.

I loved Linkedin, because I felt a lot of connection to the book, not because I\\\'m painting swastikas at my school, but because I am learning for my Bar Mitzvah. I also really loved Restart because of the powerful message that stood out to me about change, second chances, and how people can transform themselves.

I wanted to ask if you ever plan to write sequels to either Linked or Restart. Both books left me wanting to know more about what happens to the characters after the story ends, and I think a lot of other readers would love that too.

Thank you for writing such meaningful and inspiring books. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future!

    Sincerely,

    Hi,Sarah,

Thanks for posting. I'll try to answer all your qustions:

A script. All my books are originals, and there is no "script." I'm not even sure what that means, exactly. I imagine you see similarities. They must naturally occur because the material you're reading has been written by the same person -- me.

So far I have no plans for a FAKER sequel so far. Since they went out of the "business" at the end of the book, there wouldn't be anything "fake" about a sequel, when you think about it.

Lastly, I have never had writers block. There have been time where the going is slow, and even painful, but I can always manage to work it through.

OK? Thanks for supporting my books.                                              -----Gordon Korman-----

    Hi, Dov,

Those were a lot of kind words about my books! Thank you!

Right now I have no plans for sequels to either of the titles you mention. I would also never rule it out. So the only thing I can give you right now is what I call "an indefinite maybe." Sorry it's so iffy, but it will have to do at the moment. I have a lot of commitments to fill, and my tendency is to move on rather than go back.

I appreciate your support for my books, Dov. Have a happy New Year!               ----Gordon Korman----

    Dear Mr. Korman,

Restart, among your other works, such as Born to Rock, holds a special place in my heart. This is especially true as a young transgender person.

Restart has a unique meaning when viewed through a transgender lense.

The experience of coming into ones own as a new person, and the way Chase grapples with his identity, past and present, stands out to me. As something relatable and representative of all transformation, whether in gender identity or not. And it\'s meaningful in the way Chase has to accept his past, like many of us have had to do, while also moving on from it. Along with the expectations of masculinity and toughness set for Chase- by Aaron and Bear, by his dad, and by others around him in smaller ways.

Chase is a character that I imagine gives many people hope, including myself. I think imagining him in this way is one of many interpretations that can add extra layers to your beautiful story.

    Hi, Mica,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased to hear that you're such a big fan of my work.

Explanation: THE 39 CLUES is a multi-author series, and yes, I wrote 5 of the stories:

    ONE FALSE NOTE

    THE EMPEROR'S CODE

a short story in VESPERS RISING

    THE MEDUSA PLOT

and FLASHPOINT, which was the final book in the original series.

It's less complicated than it seems. The name of the author is on each book. And it was a SUPER series! I really enjoyed being a part of it.

Hello my name is Jaxson and in Titanic sos book 3, one thing I liked about the book is that at the beginning the captain says that this is their first and last voyage, I thought that was cool. Another thing I liked about the book is that the point of view switches through different characters a lot. A 3rd thing about the book is that it was one of the only books that actually made me sad, knowing that it was based on a real story. I also think that you are good at making a sentence that would normally be super short, super long. One last thing about your book that I liked was the part where she argued about the muffin. One question I have about your book is how exactly did the captain die? Another question about your book is how did you get the thought or get inspired to make the book? One last question about your book is if Millicent ever got her muffin, what time did she get it and what type of muffin was it? Thank you.

Thank you.

    Hi, Jaxson,

Thanks for posting. I'm pleased that S.O.S. went over so well with you. I hope you'll read all 3 book in the series.

Your questions: As I recall the true story, Captain Smith of the Titanic did what ship captains were famous for -- he went down with his ship. I was inspired by the true story of the Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage. Also, it was my first effort at that kind of fiction, that is made-up characters against the background of a true story. And please forgive me, Jaxson, but I wrote the series several years ago, and I don't remember Millicent OR her muffin. Sorry!

Thanks again for your interest. I hope you'll read many more of my books.

    Mr. Korman,

My 11 year old grandson, who knows I love to read, recommended The Fort to me.  This, in itself, is an amazing feat.  It is not what my sports minded grandson talks about.  I enjoyed it so much myself.  I wanted to call social services on Marcus and send Jaeger to juvie!  Kudos for connecting with him and him connecting with me.

    Hi,Nonna,

Thanks so much for your message! I'm so pleased to hear that THE FORT went over well with both you and your grandson. I hope you'll both choose some more titles from my long list -- the newest, SNOOP, is #106.
