Dear Mr. Korman

I LOVE your books. One book I read has been my favourite so far. The Superteacher Project. I love that book so much that i have read the physical copy and heard the audiobook on \\\"Hoopla\\\". I am currently reading \\\"Slugfest\\\". and so far, its awesome! I wanted to let you know that i like to write too but I don\\\'t know what to write about. When i discovered my love to write, it was also in a creative writing assignment in grade five. The topic was to write about a talking shark. I sent my story at the end of this letter. And im sorry, it is kind of long for a short story. I am proud of it and am thinking of writing a sequal. i know my writing is probably not scholastic worthy right now but i am hoping to work my way up. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and please feel free to see my story below, i would love to have a real author feedback on it.

 The Talking shark

 

There was once a shark that could talk, you\\\'re probably thinking “no, sharks can’t talk!” Well, you\\\'re wrong, they CAN. Let me start from the beginning , when I was 12 I went fishing with my dad. While I was fishing, I felt something tug on my fishing line. The tug only got harder and harder when SPLASH, I got pulled underwater. It all happened so quickly! The first five seconds of being under water -without any swim gear whatsoever- was terrifying. But then I realized it wasn\\\'t that bad being underwater  and then I started to swim back to the surface. When I went back into panic mode, I couldn\\\'t swim up. To make matters worse, there was a shark swimming right at me!It’s mouth seemed to be moving, I assumed it was getting ready to start eating me. I started panicking even more when it was a couple feet away, I decided to close my eyes and for whatever that needed to happen would happen quickly and painlessly when I heard someone say “stop” It sounded like a boy. When I opened my eyes I saw the shark inches from me. Could it be… The SHARK!?!?!?!? (it was) “don\\\'t worry” said the shark” the more you panic, the more unlikely it will be for you to reach the surface” I tried to say something but all that came out was bubbles.”blub blub blub”. “Oh silly me” said the shark, it came closer and placed its fin on my head and closed its eyes like trying to remember something. “There you go! Now you should be able to breathe now” said the shark.\\\" Thanks, \\\"I said. I didn’t know how I could talk underwater, now that I could breathe underwater, but at that point I didn\\\'t want to know because at the moment I just needed to get back to the surface. “I should really get going” I said, but then the shark said,”Noooooooo PLEASE don’t go! I have never seen a human up close for more than 3 minutes, that\\\'s probably when they either swim away with fright or get eaten up by my family,”.“WHAT!!!” I exclaimed “what do you mean ‘before they get eaten up by my family’?!?!?! “ “Don’t worry, I PROMISE I\\\'m not like them, to be honest i don’t even think i’m related to them, anyways, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay for tea” I was about to say no when I heard the desperate tone in his voice.I had to give in.

 

                                         * After Tea *

 

Finally tea time was over, the weird taste of seaweed was still in my mouth when i said, “ok, I REALLY need to go now my dad would have called the cops by now”. It was very likely for him to have called the cops because once when I was 7 I heard the ice cream truck and wanted ice cream so I may or may not have stolen 5 bucks from my dad’s pocket and bought myself a Spongebob popsicle. The only other thing after that I remember was happy little me in a Police officer\\\'s arms, being brought to my dad.

 

“No, please don’t go, today was the best day of my life” said the shark. I felt pretty guilty to leave but then I promised him I would come back. That seemed to have done the job. “Ok you can go. But can you bring back a dinglehopper?” “a what?” “a dinglehopper the mermaids told me about it” (yes there were mermaids but I didn’t see them) “Okay fine i’ll bring a ‘dinglehopper’ and I hope to see you soon” I said and that was farewell.

Re: your shark story.I only read a tiny bit of it, in order to be fair to other readers who want me to check out their work. Kri, I have had to make it my policy never to read other people's work. I get too many requests, and it takes up a lot of time I don't have. But what I did see looks like fun! And that's the first rule of writing -- it's important for you to like what you;re writing!
