    Hi Gord,

This has nothing to do with any book ever, but I guess I could make it about one. Have you ever written characters that went through a bad break up? (I know you have, OPERATION DO-OVER.) But what do I do if there’s no do over? I just cut off my bestest friend because they were a racist, even if they didn’t realize it. And I told them and they just wouldn’t change their heart and it just wouldn’t work. I’m really sad, and I’m crying a lot, and this’ll probably be a really good experience to write down in a book—so if you were writing a story, how would you solve it? Or would maybe the friends just not end up getting over it? Because sometimes life is like that.

I’m sorry if this bothers you. You can totally delete it. I’ve just been on this forum longer than all of my friendships, and I trust you the most. Kind of just wanted to tell you.

Senior year is still going pretty well. I realized a bunch about my friendships but I’m becoming a better person.

    Best, (& be blessed)

    Jade

Thank you! I feel a lot better now, but still sad. I think I’m going to read Son of the Mob next then! I had already started but didn’t get too far.

    Hi, Jade,

That's a toughie, and writing about it might not help much. If there is an impasse like you describe -- an unwillingness to admit the racism you see -- then the probable answer is to move on. You are a friendly, creative, smart, attractive, gregarious person with so much to offer. I know you as someone who offers friendship and kindness as a matter of natural behavior. You don't have to spend a single moment defending who you are.

You're hurt, and that's natural, including the tears. And you probably don't really want to hear that there are other -- and better -- fish in the sea. But there are, I promise you.

As for writing about it, you're probably too close to it now. But if you find it therapeutic to write your feelings down, try it, by all means. We writers do get a lot out of putting our feelings down on paper -- it's all part of our remarkable self-esteem!

Like M.C., I'm sorry to hear that you're disturbed and unhappy. Please feel better!
