Great question! If you find out, please let me know. The question keeps coming in, and I don't know what it's about. Certainly, they're not characters of mie -- I don't think. 100+ books and you can forget, but I'd remember names like those, right?

I am not completely sure if this is the correct answer. However, I do not recall Lifty and Shifty being legitimate characters from one of Gordon’s books. Instead I think it is a character from a TV show called Happy Tree Friends. A late response but I hope I helped.
