Hi! Taking a break from editing my own novel to say that you've been a big inspiration for me as a writer. Your "author voice" in your books is so vivid and unique, as well as your humor, of course, that it has been my guiding light toward how I want to be seen as an author. Your books, Schooled, Restart, and The Unteachables, were some of my favorites in middle school. I'm 19, turning 20 now, but I still consider Restart to be one of the best books I've ever read. 

Reading your books, I didn't just think about the characters or the plot or the book itself, but it grew my interest in becoming an author. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you practically raised me to be a writer. 

I hope one day you'll read one of my books as well- I've got lots of ideas! And I hope someone reads all of the books I'm going to write and has the same epiphany I did while reading yours- that they want to learn how to write. But first I'll have to that as well. (heavy on this amid rereading my first draft- yeesh! I need to order more pens...)

Despite the urge to toss my first draft into the fire and start all over, writing is my absolute favorite thing to do. It makes me truly happy. After I've had a long day, it offers escape. It's my own world, and my characters are like old friends. If anyone were to ask me if I believed in happiness, passion, or fate, I could say yes. And yes, I might have found it without reading your books, but I wouldn't want to do it like that. I love the way I found writing. 

Thank you for opening this form for fans to get in touch- even if you don't see this, I can rest easy knowing that- hey! At least I tried!

Congratulations on finding your passion. If I had anything at all to do with the fact that you found it, then I hereby take a bow. Thank you for the credit, whether or not I deserve it. Writing can be frustrating, cruel, joyful, and even bland, but it can never be dull. Take that from someone who's been at it for almost 50 years! I wish you every success, and promise you a fan letter on your first publication.
