Hi again! I just finished my reread of Payback and I don't understand this interaction. Malik tells Rackoff after ramming his head into him that it was 'for ruining Hector's life' when Rackoff responds that if it weren't for him Hector wouldn't exist, Malik responds with 'that's another thing you pay for'

Does this mean that Malik is angry at Hector for existing? I don't get it. If he was, that would be pretty funny, and very on brand seeing that Malik still cares for Hector but is still very mad. Thank you!!

    Hi, Amelia,

I think you probably misinterpreted the exchange. What was meant was that Rackoff would also be paying for his contribution to making Serenity in the first place, including "inventing" Hector and his "family.". It had nothing to do with Malik's affection for Hector, which was always very strong and true.                                                                             --GK--

Oh, okay, so basically he's mad, not because Hector exists, but because his existence implies suffering at the hands of Project Osiris and all of the other implications involving being a clone?
