Greetings Mr. Korman,

 

My name is Stephanie Miller and I am writing to you as a book lover and a mother of 3 girls who are also bookworms!

 

We live in a rural area in Ontario and my girls attend the Madawaska Valley District School in Barry's Bay which is grade JK through 12. Yes, we are that rural lol. 

 

I believe that reading is an essential part of life. It enables children to develop their imagination and creates excitement in a place where everything closes at 5pm. In a small town, reading allows our children a way to escape to new lands, meet new people, and learn things about themselves that they didn't even know. Reading creates compassion and understanding for those who are different from us and it brings people together in a way that television and the internet cannot.

 

Our school is so important to our community and I would like to start an initiative to where students choose a book to keep as their own as a reward for attendance, handing in their work on time, community hours, showing leadership, and any other good deeds done.

I am looking for companies that sell book vending machines so I can fundraise to purchase one to donate to the school. While that is in the works, I am also asking for book donations from amazing authors like yourself. I am looking to fill the need for students ages 5 - 15.

 

Full disclosure, I do not work for the school. I am just a parent who believes that every child should have the opportunity to find a book that calls to them to enjoy and hopefully develop a love for reading. All books donated will go directly to the school with or without a vending machine so I can propose starting this initiative the first day of school in September!

I have always had to make it my policy not to sell or send out books. But my publishers, Scholastic Canada and Harper Collins, should have departments that deal with your type of request. I would love to see a whole bundle of books headed your way, not just my own!
