Hi, I am writing a book of my own and was wondering if there's a certain number a main characters that you normally use, because I don't want it to get confusing.

    Hi, Marlee,

Thanks for posting. Congratulations on starting your book!

Your question: The number of main characters always depends on the story. If it's a tale about a small group of people, it's likely that 2 or even 3 of them will be main chaacters. The average story, though, really has only 1 or 2 main characters, and all the rest are second, or even third, level. You're right about too many being often confusing.  As for me, I use as many as I need to tell my story -- often only one.

OK? Enjoy the work!                                                                                      -----Gordon Korman-----
