    Mrs. Beth Olsen

Hello Mr. Gordon! My class and I really enjoyed your virtual author visit today! They are really excited to ask some questions that weren't mentioned in the Q & A. If you could answer some for us, that would be great! :)

1- What is your favorite thing about writing and why?

2- Which of your books took the longest to write and why?

3- Which of your books are true and which are made up?

4- What do you like to do when you are not writing?

5- Why did you want to be an author, even though you had other interests?

6- If you were to become a teacher, which grade level would you teach and why?

Thank you so much for sharing about yourself as a writer today. We learned so much!

    Hi, Mrs. Olsen & Students,

Thanks for posting. I'll try to answer all your questions.

    1. My favorite thing about writing is being able to get a story off my chest. That's what writers are, after all -- people who have something they want to say, a story to tell.

    2. My longest was WAR STORIES because I had to do so much research on the war, and it took a long time. The trilogy, TITANIC, took even longer, but, in fairness, that was 3 books.

    3. They're all fiction, which means I make them all up. WAR STORIES and TITANIC are based on real events, but the story and characters are fictional, and only the background is real.

    4. When I'm not writing, I enjoy doing family things -- travel, sporting events, going to the beach -- but sometimes it feels like I'm never not writing!

    5. I was 12, in 7th grade, when I wrote my first book. I'm not sure I actually wanted to be a writer; but I already was one by the time I had to choose a career. Hey, don't argue with what works!

    6. If I were to teach, I'd probably choose Grade 5/6. It's the age group I generally write for, and I think I have a certain understanding of what makes 5th and 6th graders tick.(I could be wrong about that! And I'm sure you'll tell me!)

OK? I hope that's helpful. Thanks again for writing, and for your support for my books.
