Hi Gord! I was just thinking about your books, then I wondered. What is your favorite animal you ever wrote! You've written at least 100 books and animals have a big part in them. Like, Ferretface and Luthor from Swindle, the lizard in The Unteachables, Elvis from Slacker, and so many more! What's your favorite one ever?

I think it would have to be Luthor, because he was in 8 books. You know me -- I hate picking favorites. There is a wonderful dog with a small part in my latest, OPERATION DO-OVER. His name is Rufus, and he has a strange history. He's kind of a jerk, but he's loving and sweet at the same time. He's high on the list too. -----Gord-----

Never had a dog. NO MORE DEAD DOGS was written because I was sick of reading books where the dog dies -- because the dog always dies! OLD YELLER, BOB SON OF BATTLE, WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS --2 dogs!

We had a white hamster named Vanilla who slept all day and ran on his wheel all night. And 2 hairy guinea pigs who looked the same coming as they did going. And one of my kids away at college has acquired a cat.

I wrote a book years ago called THE CHICKEN DOESN'T SKATE about a class that raised a chicken as a food chain experiment, and then had a fit when it came time to eat the thing. (And that was a true story, a classroom I actually visited!)

And I confess that my recent book, NOTORIOUS, actually has a dead dog in it, but I don't kill him. He's already dead before the book starts.

With all 3 kids out of the house living on their own, or at university, we now have no pets. Not even a goldfish. But when we did have them, they were usually guinea pigs. And we did have one white hamster named Vanilla. That's it.
