Devora MasonDear Gordon,
I read your books as a kid and remember laughing out loud as I did. One time, when we heard that you would be coming to Toronto to speak at the Leah Poslun's Theatre, my mother knew that it was a must for all of us to attend. I remember my sister and I laughing our guts from our seats in the audience. We really appreciated meeting you in person.
We no longer live in Toronto as I am raising my kids in Israel. For over a year now, I have been trying to get my 13 year old son to read your books but he never heard of you or them and was skeptical. I finally succeeded. And now we are reading "I want to go home" together. He truly has enjoyed it more than I expected and we are working on the final touches of his book report, due tomorrow, where he will be presenting to the class all about Rudy and Mike and their adventures at camp.
It would mean a lot to him (Tuvia is his name) and to me, if you would send him a letter, encouraging him to continue reading so diligently. This book has given him great exposure to new vocabulary (something that more modern books tend not to do as they want to encourage kids to read anything at all) and he has been practicing using new words in our daily conversations as well.
It's nice to know that some books remain relevant to kids, even a generation later.
Thank you in advance.
Yours truly,
Devora Mason

Your Mom tells me you've been reading and enjoying I WANT TO GO HOME. That book has a really long life -- I wrote it when I was 15, and that was over 40 years ago! I'm now approaching the publication (on June 28th) of THE FORT, which will be my 100th book -- that sounds like a lot, even to me!
I hope you'll continue to be a reader, and that some of the stuff you read will be mine. And I hope your book report presentation earns you a good grade!
Best regards to your Mom, who is a fan from wayyyyy Back! -----Gordon Korman-----
