Yup, just goofing off, having a chilled, relaxed and fun time, especially with friends and family is the best. Also, is it true that authors and artists suffer for their work? sorry if it's super random. I was just thinking about that line from the movie Flora and Ulysses (I don't know how to spell it, sorry) It's a pretty good movie, you should watch it. Are you going to/go anywhere with your kids over the summer? my mother is always talking about how we she wants to take me and my brother for an RV trip for one of the last weeks of summer, but it hasn't happened yet

My kids are a lot older than they were in the good old days when we traveled and lay around beaches. One is taking summer courses at university, one is still in high school, but looking at Junior Prom, and the eldest is a working man. So our days of vacationing en famille are pretty much over. But I do see plenty of beach time ahead -- ocean beaches are my favorite thing!

Ah, to make up for what I missed, I just wanted to say that I am in love with beaches! My family is going to Universal and one of Florida's fifty-seven billion beaches this summer. I find it ironic that I'm going to be in Florida around the same time those boys are in Florida when The Fort is released. Wait. I think? I'm pretty sure it's set in Canaan, Florida? Right? You know what... let's pretend it is...

Ruchama, I get that. As someone who loves beaches and thus all bodies of water, when the water is gross, it is gross. Also, how is there a beach in the lake? It is like, a lake with sand? Yeah, when beaches are crowded it's really lame. And I can't believe nobody was going to tell me there was a beach/boardwalk (whichever y'all choose to call it) in Brooklyn. I literally thought y'all were talking about Brooklynne from Unplugged for a good second there. Then I remembered how to spell.

Also, Gord, I'm sorry your family doesn't really go on family vacations any more, but I'm glad (and I bet you are too) your kids are becoming fully functioning adults and probably just as a great of people you and their mom are. I guess adulthood causes lots of sacrifices, including fun family vacations to the beach. I'm happy you can still enjoy the beach, though. (Who can't, really? Unless you're like allergic to water. But my friend's nose is, and he still likes it, so I guess that's subjective.)

Ruchama, since you're here anyway, when are you going to your sleepaway camp? I take it you won't be able to go chat on the Forum everyday!

Today my brother had his graduation and when we (my family) were getting ready to leave, one of the helpers stopped me. I had brung Notorious with me to read during the speeches and she stopped me, and she asked me if it was a Gordon Korman book. When I told her it was, she asked to see it and then asked if it was good. Basically, we ended the conversation by her saying that she really liked your books, Gord. Also, once I'm on here: Did you ever get tuberculosis, which brought you to making Keenan have it?

Good question (yours usually are!) I needed Keenan to be handicapped in some way, so that he could be a bit of a fish out of water, virtually friendless, not really happy to be away from Mom and stepDad, and very much missing seeing the world as an international student. That would make him receptive to ZeeBee's offer of companionship.

Why did I pick TB? Because it's serious, not like a broken leg or measles. It's a long recovery.
