    Hi Mr. Korman! I just want to say that you are my favorite author of all time, omg! I literally just finished reading your book, \\\'Masterminds.\\\' I enjoyed it so much! I could not put it down! My friend and I are always talking about your books and how much we enjoy them. I love the \\\'Chasing The Falconers\\\' series, \\\'The Unteachables\\\' was hilarious! Honestly your books are amazing..

    Also, I wanted to ask if you have any tips on writing a successful book. I\\\'ve been writing for fun for years, but I\\\'m really hoping to take it to the next level. However, I\\\'ve realized that writing for fun is a whole lot different than trying to submit a story that professional people will read. So I was just wondering if you have any tips and tricks that could help me out. I\\\'d really appreciate it. :)

    Thanks for posting and for your support for my books. You caught me on a real high today -- my newest, THE FORT, which is Book #100, made the New York Times bestseller list in its first week! And my RESTART, which is about 5 years old, is #1 on the Times children's paperback bestseller list. So I'm in a super mood tonight!


    It's not my place to tell another writer how to write, CeCe. If you have something that you can honestly say is as good as anything you've ever read, polish it up, type it double-spaced, one side of the page only, grammar-perfect, and give it to someone you trust to read. An aunt, a teacher, Mom or Dad. Then send it somewhere. Finding a publisher is as close as your public library. There are reference books on writers' markets that will tell you what different publishers are looking for, whether or not they'll accept unsolicited manuscripts, and even contact persons. 


    Send your work in with a covering letter that introduces you and tells a little about your book. That's it. The VERY worst that can happen is that they will reject it. Then you try again. That's the way it works.

    Omg! Congratulations on the success of your books!!! Honestly that is so amazing. And 'Restart' was such an amazing book. I loved reading Chase's story. ;) I have yet to read 'The Fort' which I hope to buy ASAP! 


     


    What you said about writing makes a lot of sense. I actually got rejected once before, and afterwards I was too scared to try again. I just thought it meant I wasn't good enough at writing and I was really disappointed for a time because I really love writing, so I continued writing for the fun of it. But thanks so much for the encouragement! I think I'll try again.

    Dear Gordon Korman,  since my class finished schooled on the cliff hanger we all wonder about a sequel to it, because it honestly was the best book i've ever read in my entire life.

    I'm pleased to hear that SCHOOLED made such a hit with you.


    Cliffhanger? Really? I guess when you want more of a story, everything feels like a cliffhanger. In reality, SCHOOLED is about a boy with a social problem; the story tells about how he works his way through his problems at the new school and becomes a friend to everyone; and the conclusion is that his grandmother has bought an apartment, sold Garland, and plans to allow him to be raised in the modern normal fashion that he's come to like. No cliffhanger.


    I don't plan another book about Cap, but I wouldn't rule it out. We'll see, OK?

    A cliffhanger is a story that literally leaves you hanging. e.g. if we left Cap hanging off the edge of a cliff, with the reader not knowing if he falls or not. Or even if he's in trouble after innocently writing all those checks with the dance money, and the reader is left wondering if he's going to be arrested. Or if the story leaves him without a guardian -- suppose Rain is too old or too injured to be able to care for him. If the reader doesn't know what's going to happen to him -- THAT'S a cliffhanger.
