Dear Gordon Korman,

I have just started middle school and need some advice about it. People are so tall and how do I keep my grades up? Also my teachers grade everything and some teachers don't. The worst thing is dress code! What am I supposed wear? I just really need to keep my grades up. Any advice?? Please tell me??

Thanks for posting. My advice to you is going to be simple, because the best advice always is:

Relax! Middle School is just Elementary School plus One. You're the same person you were last year, and so are the other kids. As for keeping your grades up, that's an easy answer, and you know it as well as I do. Work hard. Do your homework; ask questions if you don't understand something. Clothes? Wear the same kind of clothes you wore in elementary school, only they'll probably be bigger -- neat, clean. If there is a real dress code, find out what it is and wear it.

And enjoy! Everyone else will be a little nervous too. It's OK. Have a great year. Middle School is fun!
