    Dear Gordon,

    I have been laughing at I Want to Go Home for about 30 years. My fav teen book ever. Have revisited it in recent years with my kiddos and now they are laughing too.

    After reading it out loud to them the last few weeks I wonder if you've considered turning it into a script. It would make a fabulous play.

    I also wish I could still purchase new copies of it!

    I'm pleased to hear that I WANT TO GO HOME went over so well with you! I'm glad your kiddos are doing the same.


    I never considered trying to turn it into a play. I should really talk to people who stage stories and see what they think. Good idea!

    Dear Gordon,


    In 1989/90 you came to Waverly elementary school, talked to our 5th grade class and signed two books for me: “I Want To Go Home” and “This Can’t Be Happening at McDonald Hall.”  As a student who hated reading, I never thought I could love books so much. Over 30 years later I STILL have my signed copies and read them every year over holiday break for a good stress free laugh. My husband regularly makes fun of me for it. And, over 30 years later I nearly fell out of my chair when my 4th grade daughter who also doesn’t like to read told me she was reading “Restart” by my favorite childhood author. She then quickly finished “The Unteachables” and is halfway though “Unplugged.”


    You’ve inspired 2 generations to love to read and I am forever grateful for your storytelling. Your original signed copies are out on my desk waiting for her and she’s thrilled!!!
