Journey? I guess you could call it that. My 7th grade teacher wanted us to write what he called "a novelette." I guess what he really wanted was something that didn't end after the first couple of paragraphs. I started writing a story about 2 kids at a boarding school, Bruno & Boots. And i guess I must have gotten carried away, because I really got into the story and quite accidentally wrote 100 pages!

Almost to justify doing so much work, I sent the manuscript (typed by Mom) to Scholastic, the largest publisher of children's material. They liked it, published it as THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL, and I was a published author at age 12. I wrote the 2nd one to see if I could do it again, and the 3rd to see if it was a career. It was! The last one published, THE FORT, is book #100, which I can hardly believe myself. And I've been at it for over 40 years!

You're right! It IS a journey after all!
