I go to a writing workshop where I sometimes get stumped on ideas for characters and settings. Where do you get your ideas from? I would love to try out some new strategies.

P.S. I guess you can tell since I'm on the website, but I adore your books.

    Hi, Samuel,

Thanks for posting and for being a fan.

My ideas come from plain old hard work, and a lot of thinking and plotting. No big mystery; it's just work.

There's also personal experience, or ideas that come from movies or TV shows -- (you build off the original idea, you never steal it.) They also come from jotting down all your story ideas or thoughts. You should be writing every day anyway -- notes, letters, journals, anything that keeps you writing. Who knows? A whole fresh story may come from a single scene, or phrase that you experience.

Hey, good luck. I hope to be writing you a fan letter one of these days!       -----Gordon Korman-----
